This was a fascinating read! I love a book that shows you a world you'll never be part of, and describes the joys and sorrows and everything in between. New York as a place is high on my list of must visits, and to read about the real New York, and the inner workings of what it's like to try and break into acting was riveting. I loved the main character and felt she stayed true to herself when that kind of environment could make anyone go crazy in the race for the next great role, or to fit or be moulded into that particular lifestyle. There's a great bunch of supporting characters, who came across very life-like and real. A fun, sassy read that'll make immerse you in the New York lifestyle while you never leave your house. Looking forward to the second book.

I love this book in how it confirmed to me, I love not being single. It reminded me of life as a single but with the city twist and looking for success in the big city (the big apple). It covers love, betrayal and moving on to the best of our ability while chasing our goals with humour and of course our best friend.
A good lighthearted read. I loved it.
If you live abroad and want to achieve so badly "the big dream",you cannot feel different than Elize did. The Big Set reminded me of the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness". No matter how hard or easy life is, fight for your dreams. After a stressful day I could hardly wait to jump into my comfy bed and read chapter after chapter. The book was an easy, humorous and relaxing lecture.The only questions I had after finishing it were what happened to Benjamin?They were good friends and somehow everything ended so abruptly.Did Elize and Maxim get together again?
Very easy and enjoyable read. I started reading it when I felt little bit down and it did what I hoped it would - it cheered me up ) But it did also something else - the book drew me in and now I want to know what happened to that crazy-ish girl and all of her subjects of interest. Hope the series will continue soon enough and I will have my opportunity to get to know what will she manage to achieve in her future endeavors.
Told with the energy of the the 21 year old Elize, The Big Set is a whirlwind adventure around Manhattan and its surroundings, as Elize searches for love, the prefect look and her breakout role. Hunky men, actors, directors, and her best friends populate Elize's life and support her--or betray or ignore her as she finds her footing in the entertainment biz a long way from home. I found the plot a little loose, but it's kind of fits the character's spirit.
Very relaxing and refreshing. Like watching a movie, or TV series, and getting a glimpse of the every day (and very relatable) life of a young person with a dream, trying to find herself. Excellent humor, very girly, and I love how Eli (the main character) occasionally mocks her actions and thoughts. We've all been there.
The acting school scenes are perfectly written. I'm guessing this is the author's experience speaking, because they are so, SO correct and real.
No pretentiousness whatsoever. The voice of the author is present at all times and I love it when you can recognize an author's voice and style. Especially when it's fun.
If you're a fan of the genre, I would most definitely recommend reading this and everything else Ilze Powell writes in the future.
The ending leaves you full of oxygen, so to say. Very lovely and very different than the usual endings in this genre. I thought I could predict it, but no, and that's what I loved about this book. And I can't wait to see what happens next.

Elize Lapsene has a tendency to fall into the most unlucky, ridiculous situations, but also the most unbelievable, mind-blowing good fortune! As she stumbles (sometimes quite literally after a night of partying!) through Manhattan, she makes her way through gorgeous men, whirlwind adventures, and people who seem to want to make Elize's dreams come true. And you can't help but cheer her on.

Ilze Powell has created a thoroughly enjoyable character. At times you can't help but roll your eyes (with a smile on your face) as another man finds Elize irresistible, and another acting coach/director/agent thinks Elize has something no one else has. But the author does a very good job of keeping Elize grounded and keeping the reader invested in not only her character's successes but also her disappointments and heartbreaks.

I look forward to the next Elize Lapsene novel. This book was good for a laugh and made for an easy, enjoyable read.
